Effect of Reactive Alumina Powder on Properties of Al2O3-SiC-C Castables for BF Trough
In order to improve the erosion resistance and thermal shock resistance of castables for BF trough,microsilica in using product is replaced by reactive alumina powder, the new product has better properties.Purpose: To analyze and contrast properties change between two products caused by different micro powder.Methods: Taking the normal product which contains microsilica as the standard test group 1#,group 2# has no microsilica but reactive alumina powder and has the same cement content, group 3# and 4# are same as group 2# but cement content is 4 wt% and 6 wt% respectively Tests of the above four group samples are taken as follow: 1) Cold modulus of rupture, cold crushing strength, bulk density and apparent porosity were tested after treated at 110 ℃ for 24 h, 1000 ℃ for 3 h and 1450 ℃ for 10 h buried in carbon for the last two;2) Permanent linear changes were tested after treated at 1450 ℃ for 10 h buried in carbon;3) Hot modulus of ruptures were tested after treated at 1450 ℃ for 1 h;4) SEM was taken to the section structure of 1# and 4# samples treated after 1450 ℃ for 10 h buried in carbon.Results: 1) When cement content is 2 wt%, reactive alumina powder has little effect on 1450 ℃ but hot modulus of rupture decrease with cement content increases, so cement amount is the main impact factor;2) Cold modulus of rupture increased with the increase of cement addition, for the above three treatments, and higher than the standard group;3) Permanent linear changes are different after 1450 ℃ for 10 h buried in carbon, the standard group is shrinkage but expansion for other three groups increased with the cement amount;4) On the whole, their micro structures are the same as a mixture of noncrystal colloid and grains,but there are some crystals in 1# samples not in 4#.
