Control of drag by dilute polymers in solution
A simple Oldroyd B constitutive model is used to study the role of the viscoelasticity of dilute polymer solutions in two-dimensional flows past a bluff body. The flow past a circular cylinder is simulated for various values of the Reynolds number, the Weissenberg number and the polymer viscosity ratio.Drag enhancement and drag reduction regimes are discussed in detail along with their flow features such as the pattern of vortex-shedding.
