An Exploration on Tourism Graduates Perceptions of Work Values and Gender Differences in Work Values
Based on a survey on the tourism management graduates, this study analyzed the tourism students perceptions of work values and occupational choice propensity, and explored the impact of gender on their work values. Four work valued dimensions are identified: prestige, congenial job, job security and economic return, personal development. Tourism graduates tended to equally value self-development, material gains and the job congeniality nowadays. The multiple work values in the absence of leading work value dimensions contribute to the out-of-tourismindustry job choice propensity. Female graduates were found to value more on the economic benefits, working physical environment and if the job can please and satisfy themselves, in contrast, the males valued more on social environment.
