Finite Element Analysis of Metallic O Ring Seal Structure for the RVI of SCWR

Metallic O ring can endure big difference of pressure, and for structures of large dimension,besides the good seal effect, metallic O ring could also compensate the manufacturingerrors and the difference of thermal expansion, and is widely used in the seal design ofpressure vessel. In the design of Supercritical Water-cooled Reactor (SCWR), the design ofreactor vessel internals (RVI) must satisfy the coolant seal demand of different regions, butthe loading condition is complex because of difference in temperature and transientconditions, so evaluation of its feasibility should be put up. In this paper, analysis ofmechanics and simulation of metallic O ring seal structure is carried out by ANSYS andproblems are discussed, the characteristics of metallic O ring with different diameters andthicknesses are studied, and dynamic loading conditions are considered in the calculation.Suggestions are proposed in design of metallic O ring seal structure.
