Effects of Perforation and Grain Size on the Burning Rate of Triple Base Propellants

Presented is technical report concerning the research about grain shape and its effect on the linear burning rate of triple base propellants. Performance, with the 105mm HEAT round powder (Triple base propellant). The procedures are as follows: -Choosing of propellant. -Design and manufacture the Die (6 Dies). -Different grain size and perforation samples production (30 samples). -Analysis of physical and chemical properties of propellant. -Cords of propellant production for strand burner tests. -Closed bomb tests of 30 samples and strand burner tests of cords. -Converting the pressure-time curves to linear burning rate-time curves by using the results of last step. -Comparing the results and conclusion. The results manifested that by having the smaller grains and more of perforation in the propellant grains:a) The peak pressure will be nearly constant. B) The linear burning rate will be increased. C) The time of maximum pressure is smaller. D) Increasing the number of perforation will affect bigger grains performances less than smaller ones.
