Small is Beautiful: Market Opportunities for Power Microgeneration in China
China has shown its commitment to being the world leader in renewable energy generation with investments in alternative energy projects of nearly US$35 billion in 2009 alone, twice that of the United States. Domestic government policy emphasizes large-scale projects such as land-based wind farms and offshore wind platforms. To date power microgeneration and small scale wind projects have received little domestic interest and investment, despite having provisions for implementation in rural areas in China’s Renewable Energy Law (2006).However, as Europe and the US wake up to the potential of power microgeneration and increasingly manufacture low cost wind turbines for small scale use, the potential of micro-generation power will force a reassessment of the industry and the part it can play in helping China to achieve the government’s goal of generating 10% of the total energy mix from renewable sources by 2020.The white paper Small is Beautiful: Market Opportunities for Power Microgeneration in China details the potential for the microgeneration market in China. The paper discusses potential market size and composition, and the trends shaping the marketplace. The discussion will provide a roadmap for investors and manufacturers who want to get in on the ground floor of this nascent marketplace in China and beyond.
