Research on efficient water-cooled heatsink for wind power generation system
High performance water-cooler heatsink was developed to dissipate heat from IGBT modules of the power stack, which can be applied to wind power generators. The heatsink has microchannel-style parallel water paths to enlarge heat exchange surface area. Fins inside the heatsink are divided in streamwise direction between mounted IGBT modules to cause flow mixing and heat transfer enhancement. Thermal resistance of the heatsink is reduced by 20 percent by applying divided fins, which contributed the development of the compact and reliable power stack. In this paper, results of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis, temperature measurements, and flow field measurements by PIV (particle image velocimetry) are presented.
