PREPARATION AND PROPERTIES OF CELLULOSE FIBER/SILICA CORE-SHELL MAGNETIC NANOCOMPOSITES
Cellulose fiber/silica core-shell magnetic nanocomposites were prepared by modified lumen loading method with polyethylenimine as retention aid. They have preserved the inherent properties of the fiber and gained the magnetically responsive properties of nanoparticles.Magnetic paper was further made from the nanocomposites. These materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer and paper testers.Magnetic nanoparticles were observed of better distribution in the cell lumen after silica shell modification.Deposition of nanoparticles, which was enhanced by beating of pulp and addition of PEI,blocked the contact of fibers to extent. Our results demonstrate that magnetic nanocomposite fiber and paper possess good superparamagnetism with low remnant magnetization and coercivity. They will allow the investigation of new concepts in paper making and packaging, security paper, and information storage.
