The Effect of Acids on Mechanical Properties of PPS Fibers

In this article, the effect of HC1,H2SO4 and HNO3 on the mechanical properties of PPS fibers were studied by fiber tensile tester,FESEM and DSC,respectively. It was found that the retention of strength of PPS fibers declined linearly with increasing concentration of acids, and HNO3 solution showed the greatest impact on the mechanical properties of PPS fibers. The retention of strength of PPS fibers treated with 4mol/L HNO3 was 60%,and that of PPS fibers treated with 4mol/L HC1 and H2SO4 were over 77%. The FESEM results showed that many holes appeared on the surface of PPS fibers after HNO3 treated. The degree of crystallinity of PPS treated with the acids fibers decreased compared with that of untreated PPS fibers.
