IEC61850 Based Interface Unit and Substation Automation Systems
Substation Automation Systems (SAS) are commonly applied to substations for the purpose of increasing efficiency and the advancement of operation and maintenance. With these considerations, IEC61850 has become very popular as a communications standard within substations to support interoperability and as a consequence its application has increased rapidly in recent years. To fulfill the functional requirements requested by a wide variety user covering various system configurations, it is necessary to integrate devices which do not support IEC61850 within an IEC61850 based SAS. In order to provide a solution to this problem we have developed an Interface Unit (IFU). In this paper, we wish to share our accumulated experience and knowledge gained during the development for the IFU.
