Ecological sanitation and comparative health risks associated with different sanitation facilities

By a systematic assessment of the human exposure at different points in a sanitation system from the toilet and the user interface, over the treatment, conveyance and to the areas of reuse a rating and prioritization of potential risk for pathogen transmission can be made. By combining this with information of disease prevalence, quantitative estimates, and information of barrier efficiency a risk reduction strategy can be set up, as well as a potential of comparing different system alternatives in this regard. This forms a base for a planning and follow-up strategy.
