Opening Address by Kyrgyz Republic

Dear Representatives, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to address this conference on behalf of the Central Asian countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and our program, the Central Asian Countries Initiative for Land Management, which is also known as CACILM. The Central Asian region is one of the most ancient agricultural regions of the world, and is populated with more than 50 million people. We have a diverse agrarian culture, of sophisticated irrigation systems, rainfed lands providing crops of grain, forage, fruits, nuts and vegetables, and huge areas of pasturelands in the mountains, hills, steppe and deserts for grazing our cattle, sheep, goats, horses and even camels.
