Determination of Trace Amounts of UDMH in Water Samples Using a New Kinetic–Catalytic Reaction System
A highly sensitive, selective and simple kinetic method was developed for the determination of trace levels Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) in water samples. The method is based upon the minus catalytic effect of UDMH on the oxidation of methyl orange (MO) in H2SO4 media. The reaction was followed by measuring the decrease in absorbance of MO at 506 nm (max of MO). The effect of some factors on the reaction speed was investigated. Following the analytical characteristics of this method such as detection limit, linear range, accuracy, precision and relative standard deviation (R.S.D) were studied. Under the optimum conditions, UDMH could be determined with linear calibration graph in 0.02 μg/mL–0.08 μg/mL range. The detection limit of the proposed method is 0.01 μg/mL. The proposed method was successfully applied for the determination of UDMH in water samples.
