Interactions between Aluminum Tozicity and Manganese Tozicity in Soybean
Hydroponics experiments were performed to investigate interaction between Al toxicity and Mn toxicity with an Al-sensitive soybean cultivar. Excessive Mn supply enhanced Al induced root growth inhibition, increased Al accumulation in roots, mainly in the cell walls. Al induced increasing of pectin contents in root cell walls was further enhanced by Mn addition, which maybe the cause that Mn aggravated Al toxicity in soybean. Both Al3+ and La3+ supply obviously decreased Mn accumulation in roots, stems, and leaves. Al was speculated to have a significant antagonistic effect on Mn uptake, thus alleviated Mn toxicity.
