Evaluation of TRMM Satellite Precipitation Product in Hydrologic Simulations of Hai Basin

Precipitation is not only the core variable of the hydrological cycling, but also primary atmospheric input to water balance equation. For the instantaneousness and localization of precipitation procedure, the measurement network composed of limited gauges cannot provide precise estimation on the whole basin, especially in the poorly-gauged areas. Monthly time step and 0.25° degree spatial resolution precipitation from TRMM satellite is compared by records of 165 udometers in Hai basin to quantify the consistency between satellite and gauge. Despite the errors in the satellite-based precipitation estimates, this study provides encouraging results of using the TRMM date in basin-scale hydrology analysis in long term.
