Ezperiment Design and Preliminary Study of Overtopping Breaking of Noncohesive Earth-rock Dam
Because of the sudden break of earth-rock dam, Few physical parameters are ob-served during the dam break at home and abroad. Though in recent years there are some re-lated experiments in succession, there still has not formed a theory of system. According to the characteristics of dam break due to overtopping, the similarity criterions for such experi-ments are put forward, and some related overtopping breaking experiments of noncohesive homogeneous earth-rock dam are carried out. The breach development and its related dis-charge process of such dams are preliminarily analyzed. It indicates that the breach develo-ping process of downstream dam slope is mainly composed of the longitudinal downcutting due to flow scour and the lateral expansion due to side slope failure, and the breach shape of upstream dam slope is bell mouth, which controls the breach discharge process.
