Alicyclic Polyimides Based on Bicyclo2.2.1 heptane Diamines
Aromatic polyimides have been of greet interest in engineering and microelectronics for number of applications due to their unique property combinations. Although exceptional thermal stability is complemented by excellent mechanical and electrical performance and dimensional stability over a wide range of temperatures, their insolubility in common organic solvents makes these systems difficult to process and fabricate. Moreover, most of the aromatic polyimides strongly absorbed in the visible region. Great endeavor has been concentrated on the solubility enhancement and the achievement of colorlessness. Recently, we have synthesized soluble and colorless polyimides using dianhydrides with polyalicyclic structures1-2). These polyimides have much attention in recent years because of their potential applications including use as liquid crystal orientation layers, flexible organic ELD, or solar-cell substrates. In this presentation, we will report the synthesis and the properties of the alicyclic polyimides based on bicycle2.2.1heptane(norbornane)-structured diamines.
