Tailoring the chain microstructure of biodegradable polyesters for medical applications
High molecular polyesters obtained from lactide, glycolide and ε-caprolactone are valuable biodegradable materials used in medicine in the fields of temporary therapeutic applications in surgery, controlled drug delivery and tissue engineering. These materials are approved to medical applications during their compatibility with body tissue. Degradation occurs to low molecular hydroxyacids which during metabolic reactions are absorbed in the body. Moreover our copolymers are synthesized using low toxic initiators such as zirconium, calcium or magnesium acetylacetonates.
