A Sustainable Urban Structure as A Child-Care Environment
One of the reasons for the rapidly declining birth rate in Japan during recent years is the hardship of child-care faced by working parents. The possibility of child-care for working parents is likely to be influenced by the combination of following factors;1) A Working Style such as flexibility with start/end of work time and working hours,2) An Urban Structure such as a distance relation between work place and home as well as the maintenance on public transportation for commuting,3) A Level of Child-Care Support such as the operation hours, locations and types of service provided by nursery services. The target area of this study is Tama New Town in Japan that is one of the largest bed towns in the suburb of metropolitan constructed after the war. This study investigates the effective child-care support plan by suggesting the models of child-care supportive environment for working parents with perspectives on Working Style, Urban Structure and Ideal Child-Care Support
