Energy Consumption and Retrofit Strategy Analysis for Greening a University Campus
University campus buildings have their own characteristics, such as multi-functions,complex systems and high energy consumption. To make the campuses more sustainable, careful consideration should be given to sustainable design incorporated with green features, which can provide a range of significant benefits including enhanced productivity and well-being of students, increased ability to attract and retain teachers, and an improved image in the community.Projects that incorporate green features also have lower total costs over time due to reduced energy costs and more efficient operations overall.Furthermore, high performance green campus can also serve as a teaching tool for students. In this paper, the investigations of energy consumption and on-the-spot measurements for a university campus in Changsha are firstly carded out, which include the architectural characteristics, the energy consumption of electricity, city gas and water, and terminal energy consumption.Based on the actual measured data, characteristics and existing problems of energy consumption and corresponding architecture design issues are analyzed and suitable technologies and strategies for campus greening and campus sustainability are discussed.
