Cooling enhancing about front lid of the shield blanket in ITER
Shield blanket is a very important component of the ITER machine, which provides thermal and nuclear shielding for the vacuum vessel and external components. However, the thermal loads depositing in the shield blanket itself from plasma and nuclear irradiation must be removed out by pressurized water flowing through the proper channels inside the blanket. The analysis of flow distribution and cooling ability is one of the important aspects in the design of shield blanket. In this paper, the front header of one of the ITER shield blankets was studied by the FLUENT code. T-shape flow driver was introduced to increase the flow velocity and the cooling ability. According to the results, the flow driver was modified to get more uniform cooling. The improvements were evidenced by the temperature distribution.
