VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT FOR SEA-LEVEL RISE IN THE ASIA AND OCEANIA REGION
This study evaluated the impact of the rise in sea level quantitatively over a specified period of time assuming the value based on the sea level rise data received from the IPCC specifying the increasing inundation/flooding areas in all of the Asian an Oceania region. The main results of this study are the identification of the areas most vulnerable to inundation and the investigation of the increasing trend in inundated areas from sea-level rise and storm surge. The spread of damage was remarkable in the low-lying belt area, including the river mouth region, such as Mekong River and Ganges River, and the southern part of New Guinea Island. The increase in population in inundated areas will increase prior to the increase in inundation.
