Electric Motor Driven Systems within the Long-term Agreement On Energy Efficiency in Industries in the Netherlands
In the early 1990s the Netherlands started a policy on energy efficiency signing Long-term Agreements (LTAs) with the industry. The first generation had its focus on process efficiency by good house keeping only, were the second generation broadend its focus to: ·Energy management. ·Process efficiency within the site. ·Process efficiency outside the site (e. g. use of renewable energy, energy reduction by product innovation and improved chain efficiency). Results of this approach are encouraging: The first period showed over 20% energy efficiency improvement while for the second period (1998-2012) similar results are expected. Regardless this approach still an enormous potential for energy efficiency improvement of electric motor driven systems has been determined. 20 PJ primary energy in industries until 2020 could be saved by implementing measures with return on investment within 5 years. This is why an extra effort has been planned started at the end of 2006 and is described in this paper.
