PREDICTION BY PARTIAL MATCH BASED WEB PREFETCHING

The key issue of Web prefetching is to establish an effective prediction model, which can be used to make precision prediction of user browsing actions. Prediction by Partial Match (PPM) is a sophisticated, state of the art compression algorithm. Due to the prediction mechanism, it can be used in the Web prefetching area. Prefetching should work with Web caching system in a seamless manner so that the limited resources such as memory and bandwidth can be managed more efficiently in Web environment. This paper discusses the PPM based Web prefetching mechanism in detail and presents an integrated Web prefetching and caching model. The experiments have shown that Web caching with PPM based prediction model can have a relative high performance and the combination of Web prefetching and caching holds the promise of improving the QoS of Web systems.
