Structural water in ultra-high pressure eclogites at Shima and Yingshan,Dabie Mountains: FTIR analysis

The nominally anhydrous minerals (NAMs) such as garnets and omphacites in ultra-high pressure eclogites of Shima and Yingshan areas from Dabie Mountains were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, which indicates that NAMs could contain hydrogen occurring as hydroxyl (OH) or molecule H2O.It was found that the water contents arent uniform in NAMs from different areas to the same area, and from the different grains at the same area to the different position in the same grain. The structural water contents of the omphacites at Shima and Yingshan are respectively from (90-1670) × 10-6 and from (110-710) × 10-6;while the garnets are from (510-830) × 10-6 and (0-180) × 10-6. Former academicians initially discuss the influence of structural water on the eclogites deformation and the relationship between structural water and fluid inclusions in NAMs combining with the related work.
