From Super Corp to the Emerging Micro Network Economy Successfully Navigating the New SET Factor Trends to Drive Design Innovation in the Current Global Economy

As we approach the l00th anniversary of the Bauhaus we must provide a new mode of thinking that allows designers to respond to the current SET factor shifts as effectively as Behrens and Gropius did nearly 100 years ago.The SET factors today must be understood at both the global and local level.Large corporate systems cannot afford to negatively impact natural systems, nor harm cultural systems.Governments and individuals need to develop better methods for assessing technology to reduce significant unintended consequences. We are in a global system were BRIC countries are becoming as powerful as G7 countries.Eastern cultural and Western cultural are equally balanced and interdependent in their global influence and economic growth. The global human demographic is older than it has ever been.Design must learn to live in the space between direct human experiences and the visible and invisible service systems that drives them.We must re-examine how education prepares students for their work in corporate design and consulting. We must also empower them with the entrepreneurial drive and vision to dream the next Bauhaus for the emerging century.China must play a pivotal role in the new conception of design as object to system and service and become a global leader in the new vision.
