Tribological Behavior of the Ni3Al-based Composites/Gray Cast Iron Tribo-Pairs at High Temperatures
Ni3Al-alloy and Cr3C2/Ni3Al composites were produced by the powder metallurgy technique in this work. The high temperature tribological behavior of the Ni3Al-alloy and Cr3C2/Ni3Al composites that grind with the gray cast iron was analyzed by the pin-on disk wear testing, and the worn surfaces morphologies of their were observed. The results indicated that the wear resistance of the Ni3Al-alloy and Cr3C2/Ni3Al composites was improved as the temperatures increased. This behavior mainly attributed to the following reasons: on one hand, the wear mechanisms of the Ni3Al-alloy and Cr3C2/Ni3Al composites transformed with increasing temperatures,on the other hand, the strength of the Ni3Al-alloy and Cr3C2/Ni3Al composites was increased with increasing temperatures due to the Ni3Al-based materials possess a positive temperature-dependence of strength. However, the strength of the counterpart gray cast iron was reduced as the temperatures increased. Therefore, the wear resistance of the counterpart gray cast iron was decreased with increasing temperatures.
