Numerical Model of the First Facility for Manufacturing Ultra-clean Nickel-based Superalloy Powders
Herein we report to solve the “ceramic inclusions problem in P/M nickel-based superalloys with Chinese self-innovative EIGA melting technology. The nickel-based superalloys was melted on the first Electrode Induction Melting Gas Atomization Facility for manufacturing ultra-clean superalloys proposed by C.C.Ge and established by his group. In this paper, numerical model of electrode induction melting gas atomization process was established. The complex interaction of the electromagnetic and thermal fields on the fluid flow, electrode feed rate and melting rate was investigated.Models of working coils coupled with magnetic flux concentrators were experimented to verify the simulation results, which lead to achieve a continuous melt-flow and yield for the particle size fraction of ≤100μm is~80%.
