The Characterization of Ceramic Particles Reinforced Molybdenum Powder Produced by High Energy Ball Milling
The high temperature applications of the aeronautic industry demand the materials to bear the tough environment on the elevated temperatures. One of these high temperature materials are the molybdenum composites, which are manufactured by high energy ball milling, based on the mechanical alloying processing technique. In this research molybdenum powder and ceramic powders were milled separately with the Fritsch Pulverisette 5 planetary ball mill, then the materials were mixed together, and ball milled together.During the research the volume fraction of the ceramic particles were varied, the milling time was also treated as a variable. The aim of the study was to define in what extent the ceramic particles change the shape, grain structure and size distribution of the molybdenum powder and to describe the relationship between the ceramic and the metallic particles. The powders were analysed by X-Ray Diffraction methods. The produced samples after the milling were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope,Digital Image Analysis.
