Fabrication and Properties of Porous Titanium and Titanium Aluminum Carbide
Porous titanium were fabricated by freeze casting method with porosity of 70%and macropore size of 100-500 μm.The compressive plateau stress is 63 MPa and suitable for biomedical application.Porous Ti3AlC2 MAX phase ceramics were fabricated by releasing of H2 from TiH2 and kirkendall effect between Ti and Al.The pore sizes are from 5 to 30 μm and porosity of 35%with compressive stress of 350 MPa.The possible applications of the porous Ti3AlC2 are gas or liquid filters in corrosion environments.
