Microstructure and Cutting Performance of Nanostructured TiAlSiN Films by Cathodic Arc Method

  TiAlSiN nano multilayer coating was produced by TiAlN and TiSiN layers alternatively deposited on cemented carbide substrates by cathodic arc evaporation.The microstructure was investigated by energy dispersive spectrometry(EDS),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and the adhesion was evaluated by scratch tests.From this test,TiAlSiN nano multilayer coating exhibited high hardness(33GPa)as well as excellent adhesion strength.At the same time,in order to confirm which coating was suitable for stainless steel turning,three coatings were compared by turning test: TiAlN,TiAlSiN monolayer and TiAlSiN nano-multilayer.And it was obvious that the TiAlSiN nano-multilayer coated insert had the best performance while the TiAlSiN monolayer was inferior.
