Strengthening Effect of Nano TiC Powder Addition during Laser Surface Modification:Microstructure and Mechanical Properties

  Due to high quality,efficiency and flexibility,laser surface modification has been widely used for restoring/improving performance of mechanical parts,bringing huge economic values in various industrial fields.The addition of nano particles extends the application of laser surface modification with more superior properties,and has attracted a lot of interests.In this paper,Ni alloy wire of Inconel 625 was cladded on the substrate of austenitic stainless steel S310 by hot wire laser cladding.Nano TiC powder was pre-coated on the surface of S310 substrate and Inconel 625 cladded layers.Laser scanning was used to melt the surface and encompass TiC powders into the molten pool.Nano TiC powders were uniformly distributed at the grain boundary with diameters 200-400nm,thanks to the rapid heating and cooling in laser surface modification.Mechanical properties were measured under different working conditions.Hardness,strength and elongation of modified parts were all improved further by the addition of nano powders.This research testified the method of nano powder addition during laser surface modification,beneficial to strengthen and repair metal parts economically and flexibly
