Synthesis and Characterization of Hybrid Transition Metal/Iron Nanowires

  Nano magnetic materials have been applied to the drug delivery system such as nano-bioprobe,biomarker,targeted therapy for cancer,and electromagnetic interference shielding,etc.For different applications,the surfaces or compositions of the materials need to designed differently.The high oxidation resistance and good magnetization properties of hybrid transition metal/iron nanowires(e.g.Ag/Fe,Pd/Fe,NiFe and CuFe nanowires)are revealed in this research.For Ag/Fe,Pd/Fe systems,iron nanowires are used as supporter to coat Ag or Pd nanoparticles by chemical reduction method(NaBH4)using the precursors of silver nitrate or palladium chloride in an external magnetic field.The silver or palladium precursor is mixed with iron nanowires and reduced by NaBH4 to deposit a thin nanoparticle layer of silver or palladium on the surface of iron nanowires.Nanoparticle layers can provide a passive layer to prevent oxidation of iron nanowires.This study also uses the mixed precursors of iron and copper to prepare the solid solution of Cu/Iron nanowires in an external magnetic field.These nanowires can be prepared in diameter less than 100nm with micrometer length.X-ray diffraction,field emission scanning electron microscope are used to examine the properties of these hybrid iron nanowires
