High Pressure Heat Treatment of AM Parts Combining HIP and Heat Treatment
Thanks to the capabilities of modern HIP systems with possibility to perform rapid cooling and quenching in the HIP furnace it is today possible to combine HIP:ing with conventional heat treatment into one cycle performed in one equipment, the HIP.This combination of processes is called High Pressure Heat Treatment(HPHT).The benefits of HPHT are that process steps can be eliminated which will reduce total effective cycle time and downtime between process steps and thus total turn around time resulting in a more cost-effective process. The process energy consumption can also be reduced with HPHT Since less heating up and cooling down of the parts is needed and time at elevated temperature for the material can also be reduced which is important when trying to minimize grain growth and microstructural coarsening.A modern HIP system today has a great flexibility and can cool with up to 4500 ℃/min under pressures up to 200 MPa.These capabilities make it possible to heat treat a great array of different materials and alloys.
