Effect of Binder Droplet Size and Layer Thickness on the Resolution of Binder Jet 3D Printed Parts

  As more materials are able to be printed with binder jet 3D printing,improving resolution and surface finish of sintered parts is critical to increasing the use of 3D printed parts in industrial settings.Binder jet printers are capable of printing a wide variety of powder sizes and distributions.Additionally,the printers are able to print with printheads that can produce different size droplets.While there are many factors that go into determining the final part surface properties,binder droplet size and layer thickness are two key parameters.This paper will examine the effect of changing these two parameters and the results will highlight the improved surface finish that is made possible by the combination of minimizing layer thickness and binder droplet size.
