A Novel High Strength Al Alloy with Improved SLM Processability
Despite Additive Manufacturing(AM)technologies are becoming very popular and the number of parts already produced as prototypes or for final applications are increasing, there are few specific materials for AM available on the market. In particular, only a few Al alloys are commercialized, mainly belonging to the Al-Si-Mg alloy system, featuring low-medium strength.By this work,we studied the effect of the addition of Si on the processability of an high strength 7068 Al alloy. The ability of the alloy to respond to aging starting from as built and solution annealed conditions has been evaluated. The microstructure of the new alloy has been characterized by electron and optical microscopy.
