Characteristics of NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co2-xNixO5+δ Cathode Materials for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

  In this study,the layered perovskites of the NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co2-xNixO5+δ system have been prepared and used in solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs).The NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co2-xNixO5+δ were fabricated by solid-state reaction.The bulk densities decreased with increasing Ni content until the formation of the secondary phase.The NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co2-xNixO5+δ with layered perovskite structure displays excellent electrical conductivities.At 500℃,the electrical conductivities of NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co2O5+δ,NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co1.9Ni0.1O5+δ,and NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co1.8Ni0.2O5+δ,sintered at 1200-1250℃,were found to be 1391 Scm-1,1421 Scm-1 and 1599 Scm-1,respectively.As the x value of NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co2-xNixO5+δ increased to 0.3,its electrical conductivity degraded due to the presence of second phase NdSrCoO4.The results of this study verified that NdBa0.5Sr0.5Co2-xNixO5+δ is a potential cathode material for SOFC applications.
