The Application of Impregnation and Local Densification Technology on the Production of PM Automobile VVT Pulley Stator
Powder metallurgy process has near net shape,high production efficiency,low cost,suitable for mass production,but the powder metallurgy matrix has certain porosity,easy liquid penetrant.The technology of variable valve timing(VVT)for auto engine helps reduce fuel consumption.PM VVT system is a milestone product in powder metallurgy industry.Most of VVT systems include 4 complex PM parts or combination component parts.The pulley stator is one of the important PM parts for VVT.The structure of the pulley stator is complex,which the Pulley and the stator are designed as a whole.There is a U-shaped groove for sealing ring on both ends of the stator.Additional impregnation and partial densification are added on the basis of conventional PM process.The area around the U-shaped slot is pressed to density over 7.5 g/cm3 by sizing for reducing PM porosity.Meanwhile,the impregnation sealant is filled into the PM inner pores through vacuum principle.The sealing effect is achieved by heating and solidifying.When the rotor is moving relative to the inner side of the pulley stator,the oil is easy to seep from the stator inner diameter to the outer tooth surface of the pulley,which affects the belt working performance.The PM VVT pulley stator is produced with impregnation and local densification technology,which has stable size,good heat resistance,oil resistance,impervious performance.The paper presents how to produce the PM pulley stator of VVT that can prevent oil leakage with impregnation and local densification technology.
