Development of High Efficiency Oil Pump for Automobiles

  Oil pumps for automobiles are required to be highly efficient to comply with increasingly stringent fuel consumption and environmental regulations in recent years.Sintered internal gear pump rotors have been widely adopted in conventional oil pumps for lubricating engines and generating hydraulic pressure of transmissions.In responding to demands,we have developed original tooth profiles contributing to achieve high efficiency of oil pumps.Effective measures for achieving higher efficiency of oil pumps are to reduce tip clearance and side clearance,which were realized based upon our proprietary technologies such as Warm sizing for reducing tip clearance and FEX(Cross-linked PTFE resin)for reducing side clearance.As a result,the efficiency of oil pumps of transmissions for high pressure was improved by 15%owing to the combination of these technologies.Warm sizing and the FEX technologies contribute to reduce the pump capacity by reducing the oil leak,which allows downsizing of the oil pump.Furthermore,since FEX is also applicable to sintered side plates of vane pumps which are becoming widespread,we have succeeded in increasing the options of oil pump development.In this paper,the details of the development and the prospects for the future will be presented.
