Properties of Steel Powder Mixture with Developed Lubricant for High Density Application

  Powder metallurgy is now applied to various automobile parts due to superior advantages in productivity and flexibility to complex shaped parts.Recently,sintered automobile parts are required to have thinner shapes and higher strength because of the demand for improving fuel efficiency and downsizing on automobiles.Therefore,it is necessary to achieve high compressibility in the raw material mixtures to meet the demand.In particular,application of sintered materials to highly loaded automobile transmission gears,where high strength and high durability are needed.In order to increase the strength of the sintered material,a combination of high compacting pressure and reduction of added lubricant is effective.In this report,a lubricant is developed from the viewpoint of lubricity under high loaded condition such as in the forging process and modified to powder metallurgy.Since the lubricant is superior in lubricity especially under high compacting pressure,it is expected to reduce the lubricant amount to increase green density.In this paper,various properties of 46F4H(0.5Ni-1.0Mo Pre-alloy Steel)based powder mixture with newly developed lubricant,are revealed.
