The Complex Characterization of the Metallic Particles Shape and Size by a Different Method
The complex characterization of metal matrix composites is important because the particles shape, size distribution have a significant effect on the processes taking place during the powder metallurgic processes, thus on the structure and properties of the product. The aim of the experiments was to investigate how reliable the microscope based methods for the examination of the particles and the processes based on physical interactions are and how the results can be compared.During the research we examined Ti metal particles. The images made with Scanning Electron Microscope of the powder raw materials were analyzed by Digital Image Processing and the size and shape of the particles were analyzed by different parameters(area, equivalent circle diameter, etc). We also estimated the particle size distribution by the laser light scattering and the zeta potential value.Phase and quantitative composition was determined by X-ray powder diffraction, together with grain size and shape estimation by size-strain and Rietveld refinement methods. The crystal structure of analyzed materials was refined according to the measured chemical composition of phases in order to obtain reliable quantitative, size and shape data.
