Ball Milling:a Pragmatic Method to Produce Nanocomposites as Anode for Lithium Ion Batteries

Li-ion battery technology has become very important in recent years as these batteries show great promise as electrochemical energy storage and conversion devices. However, developing new mass production method of electrode materials for lithium ion batteries still remains a strong challenge.Metal oxides-carbon nanocomposites are considered as alternatives to graphitic anodes in lithium-ion batteries.Ball milling is emerging as a technique to prepare nanocomposites with enhanced capacity and cyclic stability. In this review,we describe that ball milling can produce various nanostructured anode materials of the rechargeable lithium batteries, such as n MoO3-C,FeTiO3-C and Fe2O3–SnO2–C nanocomposites, which exhibit an improved electrochemical performance. Also, the ball milling method can synthesize much larger quantities of nanostructured materials, which may meet a major challenge for the future industrial applications in the rechargeable lithium batteries.
