Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Biomedical Ti2448 Alloy Prepared by Powder Metallurgy
The Ti2448 alloy with nominal composition of Ti-24Nb-4Zr-8Sn(wt.%)is prepared by powder metallurgy using elemental metal powder. The relative density of green compacts(76~85%)increases with pressure. The green compacts are sintered at different temperatures and the relative density of sintered(95.7~96.6%)increases with sintering temperature.Microstructure observations reveal the existence of β-matrix phase and α-precipitation phase. The alloys sintered at 1300/1400℃ for 4 h exhibit excellent mechanical properties, including a high strength(840~900 MPa)and a low elastic modulus(~65.78 Gpa). The Ti2448 alloy microstructure becomes more homogeneous and contains more α phase with increasing sintering temperature.
