Study on the Mechanical Properties and Wear Resistance in Sinter Steels by Carburizing Heat Treatment
Sintered steel with different alloy parameters, namely FC-0208 and FLN2-4400 are used for heat treatment in this study to discuss the effect of carburizing heat treatment on the mechanical properties and wear resistance of sintered steel. From the heat-treated metallurgical structure, the microstrucrure appears great differences in the two types of sintered steel. The martensite structure of FC-0208 is formed thick plate martensite, and FLN2-4400,present tiny lath martensite mixed blocky austenite. After heat treatment, such different microstructures present significant effects on the mechanical properties of sintered steel, including strength and hardness.Research reveals that FC-0208 with low multiplying factor, shows higher hardness because of the high-carbon martensite, and FLN2-4400,with low carbon, presents the better mechanical properties due to the added nickel stabilizes the austenite. With heat treatment, the sintered steel would change the phase and become martensite, and the apparent hardness of sintered steel would be enhanced.Further analyzing the effect of carburizing heat treatment on the wear resistance of sintered steel, the wear resistance would be improved when the apparent hardness of sintered alloy steel is enhanced.
