Novel Stent Prepared by Metal Injection Moulding and Its Biomedical Application

In this study,we produced novel stents by MIM and applied them to the animal experiments.Stents produced by traditional laser cutting or metal wire knitting technique have been widely used in clinical application but suffered from the expensive price.Comparing with the above methods,MIM showed great advantages in producing small and complex shaped biomedical parts with high production rate, low cost, good surface finishing and flexible shape design. The production process and biocompatible properties of MIM stents were reported in this study.Vascular stents were manufractured from stainless steel or nitinol.As-received stents were implanted into aorta arteries of serveral groups of adult dogs by standard angioplasty technique.A good biocompatibility was achieved, which reflected that the MIM technique has great potentials in producing novel stents.
