Effects of Nb on Sintering Densification and Mechanical Properties of MIM 420 Stainless Steel
The effects of niobium(Nb)on the densification process and mechanical properties of metal injection molded 420 stainless steel has been investigated. The results showed that the addition of Nb in 420 stainless steel can form NbC particles in the matrix.Nb hinders the densification process at the early stage of sintering and promotes it in the temperature range between 1370-1390℃.At the same sintering temperature, the 420+Nb stainless steel sample shows a higher microhardness than 420 stainless steel sample, which is owing to the presence of NbC particles and higher density.
