Development of Micro-powder Injection Molding Process for Manufacturing a Piezoelectric Structure with High-aspect-ratio

In this paper,micro-powder injection molding(μ-PIM)process for manufacturing a piezoelectric structure with high-aspect-ratio was developed and optimized. For injection molding,micro-sized metal mold insert was prepared along with the optimized LIGA process. For manufacturing a homogeneous feedstock, the powder was mixed with the selected binder system at 3 times using twin extruder mixer. To analyze the rheological behavior in real injection condition, capillary test was performed with respect to various temperature and shear rate. With the prepared feedstock, injection molding was conducted into micro-sized cavity. After ejected from the metal mold insert, thermogravimetric analyzer experiment was conducted at different heating rate.Based the on the experiment, thermal debinding conditions were optimized. After sintering process,a micro-sized piezoelectric structure with high-aspect-ratio was successfully fabricated without any defects.
