Improvement of Creep Rupture Life of Nickel-Based Superalloy IN713LC Fabricated by Metal Injection Molding

High temperature strength is one of the critical technical issues to apply metal injection molding(MIM)to Nickel-based superalloy IN713LC.It is believed the cause is that the conventional IN713LC-MIM has fine grains. In this investigation,in order to improve the high temperature strength,we developed a method of additional heat treatment for intentional grain growth. As experimental methods,we reduced the carbon contents of powder to 0.01%,varied the average particle sizes in the range of 11 μm to 48 μm,applied HIP treatment to eliminate remaining pores after sintering, and then attempted the grain growth heat treatment in the range of 1220℃ to 1300℃.As a result,we found the condition that the grain of the IN713LC-MIM were significantly grown to 200 μm or more. The IN713LC-MIM with thus grown grains has greatly improved the creep rupture life as compared with the conventional IN713LC-MIM with fine grains.
