Processing and Properties of MIM418 Superalloy Prepared by Prealloy and Master Alloy Routes
The MIM418 superalloy is a precipitation hardened Ni-based superalloy, which has excellent high temperature mechanical properties, good fatigue property, prominent oxidation and corrosion resistance at the temperature below 900 ℃.The MIM418 superalloy is commonly prepared by prealloy method. However, the relatively high cost limits its use.In order to find a cost-benefit process, master alloy route is investigated,in which the master alloy powders and the carbonyl nickel powder are blended together and sintered to form the alloy with homogenous composition.Near-net shape forming of MIM418 superalloy is realized by powder injection molding technique, followed by sintering, hot isostatic pressing and heat treatment. The difference of densification behavior, microstructure, room temperature and high temperature mechanical properties between the two kinds of alloys is compared in detail. The results show that the MIM418 superalloy exhibits comparable mechanical properties with that of the alloy prepared by prealloy method
