A Review of Metal Injection Molding of Tungsten and Its Alloys
The recent research and developments in metal injection molding(MIM)of Tungsten(W)and its alloys are reviewed,including W,oxide dispersion strengthened tungsten(ODS-W),tungsten rhenium(W-Re),tungsten copper(W-Cu),tungsten heavy alloys(WHAs).The fabrication methods of proper MIM powder with good flowability and sinterability are presented.The effects of powder characteristics,sintering and hot isotactic pressing(HIP)process parameters on the density and microstructure for W and ODS-W are summarized.For liquid phase sintering of W-Cu and WHAs,the powder type and sintering profiles,which are critical for material properties and surface conditions,are also discussed.
